About

Conrad Chatterton is an English baritone who studies under the guidance of Mark Wildman, Ingrid Surgenor, and Chris Hopkins. He graduated with an Advanced Diploma in Opera from the Royal Academy of Music (RAM) and holds a Master of Music with Distinction from the Royal Northern College of Music (RNCM), where he trained with Matthew Best. Additionally, he holds an M.A. (Hons) in Geography from the University of Aberdeen.

 

Conrad's operatic roles include 'Papageno' in Die Zauberflöte (RAM), 'Vater' in Hänsel und Gretel (RAM), 'Sir John Falstaff' in Sir John in Love (BYO), 'Mr. Gedge' in Albert Herring (RAM), 'Edmund Bertram' in Mansfield Park (RNCM), 'Gianni Schicchi' in Gianni Schicchi (Random Opera Company), and 'Der Haushofmeister' and 'Ein Lakai' in Ariadne auf Naxos – Prologue (RNCM), among others.

 

Recent highlights include covering the roles of 'Kromow' in The Merry Widow and 'Curio' in Giulio Cesare at Glyndebourne’s 2024 Summer Festival, where he also performed as part of the Chorus. He was similarly a member of the Glyndebourne Festival 2023 Chorus, appearing in productions of Don Giovanni, L’elisir d’amore, Semele, and The Rake’s Progress. Additional chorus credits include performances with Grange Park Opera in Otello, Der fliegende Holländer, La Gioconda, and The Excursions of Mr. Broucek.

 

Equally at home on the concert stage, Conrad’s oratorio and concert repertoire includes Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem, Rossini’s Petite Messe Solennelle, and Bach’s Christmas Oratorio, among other works.

 

Looking ahead, Conrad will return to Glyndebourne for the 2025 Summer Festival, performing in Falstaff, Kát'a Kabanová, Parsifal, and Saul as a member of the Glyndebourne Chorus.
